On June 26 1977, Sal Lupo and Judy Placido were sitting in Lupos parked car at about 3:00 am. This being after they left The Elephas discotheque in Bayside Queens. While they were sitting in their car three gunshots blasted through the vehicle. Lupo was hit in the right forearm while Placido was shot in the temple, neck and shoulder. Both of them survived the shooting. Ironically, they were both discussing the Son of Sam shootings before they were shot. Lupo and Placido both said they didn't see the person who did this to them. However, there were multiple witnesses who were said to have seen a tall man with dark hair and a leisurely type of suit fleeing from the area. One man said he saw his car and even had some of the license plate numbers.
